Welcome to KW Pilates!
What Is Pilates?
Joseph Pilates developed what has become known as the Pilates Method of exercise over 80 years ago. It continues to grow in popularity today because it works.
The primary goal of Pilates is to get you moving with ease and efficiency. Activating core muscles is essential to help you achieve this goal. As the core is strengthened you are able to support your lower back, spine and extremities. Then, combining a set of physical exercises focusing on breathing, lengthening of spinal and joint mobility and stability, a unique exercise experience is created that works you from the inside out.
A smooth, flowing movement quality is encouraged as well as engaging the mind to work the body with precision. All of this allows you to feel the relaxed and invigorating qualities of the Pilates Method.
About Stephen Filipowicz & KW Pilates
Stephen Filipowicz was first introduced to Pilates in the mid70's. He was again drawn to it years later when he was recovering from a knee and back injury and sought it for it's rehabilitative qualities.
He studied Pilates with renowned teachers Susan Greskevitch and Margo McKinnon at Body Harmonics in Toronto and is certified through the PhysicalMind Institute.
Stephen, who taught dance for many years at the University of Waterloo, has used his extensive background in movement and Pilates to train skaters and professional dancers to enhance their performance, as well as working with the novice exercisers to help bring strength, fluidity and balance back to their everyday movement.
